{ Cape Horn Vineyard Wedding }

Stephanie & Matt were married at Cape Horn vineyard in Echuca on the sweetest of damp days – no rain (thank the heavens) but just the right amount of drizzle to deem it romantic. The boys prepared at Quest while Steph and her parents and bridesmaids rented a home in Hopwood St. The dark red dresses worn by the maids made this a visually dramatic ensemble – extremely striking when paired with the dark black of the men’s suits. The make up wand was wielded by the lovely Blaire-Maree Teasdale and hair was taken care of by Lindy Lawton.

This was a beautiful wedding with a bride and groom who had a fantastic bunch of friends in their bridal party. Bruce Kilpatrick took care of the celebrancy duties with typical ease and good humor and the crowd cheered loudly as Steph and Matt were named man and wife. Here’s a sample of their wedding album. Allison and Lincoln were married in a private garden at the Rich River Golf Club after Al’s preparations at Quest Echuca. The service at Rich River was simple and sincere in this surprisingly quaint location, befitting the intimate tone of the day. The bridal waltz was our favourite part of the day – despite having to practically shoot in complete darkness (hence the grainy, filmic look of the shots). These moments had prom-dance poignancy and were as moving as they were light hearted. Many thanks to Leanne Buchanan, the best second photographer in the west. Cake by Tracy’s Cakes.

In early November we photographed Tegan and Nick’s wedding day who exchanged vows inside St Mary’s Church Echuca – a grandiose building befitting the style of the wedding. Everything about this day had been planned meticulously and the result was a class act. The bridal party – a great looking party of close friends and family of the bride and groom from Shepparton – made for a fantastic photo shoot. Well it couldn’t really get any busier. We’re at the height of wedding season and practically chained to the editing suite. It’s been a fantastic month, shooting weddings every weekend and shooting real estate in between. Apologies for not updating the blog as often as we should, but clients come first and the work is most certainly piling up. We’II be posting more over January and February.

In the meantime, we just had to show you this – one of the loveliest albums we’ve designed recently, for two of the loveliest folk we’ve photographed.

Amie and Brad prepared for and were married at Perricoota Vines Retreat on a sunny day in October. The bridesmaids dresses – bright pink – serendipitously matched the roses in bloom around the wedding arbor. Amie is a spectacular looking girl, a total sweetie and with her new hubby, she was beaming. Their two children added extra warmth to the days proceedings which included a photo shoot in the port of Echuca and the Perricoota Wine District. Such a beautiful day. And we love it when our clients order albums. Here’s a glimpse of Amie and Brad’s own Picturebook that we designed for them.

{ A Relaxed Occasion }

Carlie & Daz were married before 20 of their closest family members at Morrisons in Moama. The ceremony took place on the deck and we then drove into the port where Carlie had hand selected her favorite locations – The Old Coffee Palace and the Vintage Cocoa Sign in the port along with the standard port backdrops. Its great to shoot against different textures and I particularly loved the white, ageing walls of the old coffee palace on High St. The cocoa sign is a backdrop I used 15 years ago for a high school art project in which I got my friend Emily to pose as Holden Caulfield (Catcher In The Rye’s) “rollerskate skinny” little sister. It was pre-digital black and white film photography. I’d love to find the shots so I could share it with you. Carlie and Darryl are a great example of how a relaxed approach to portrait posing is so effective. This couple and their beautiful daughter enjoy a true love story and it was lovely to be part of for a day. Many thanks to Leanne Buchanan for her work as second photographer. “Negative space, man, negative space!’ We have back to back weddings from next Saturday right through to December, so its going to be a very busy time. We hope to share with you some highlights of the upcoming wedding season as it unfurls so stay tuned! In the meantime, we hope to see you at Perricoota Vines Retreat‘s open day on the 9th of October. They’ve just finished constructing a beautiful Lakehouse – chandeliers and all – and have put in a new solar heated pool in the resort. The wedding arbor out there is magnficent and now with the Vines Lakehouse for receptions and 22 villas for 100 guest accommodation, its set to become the premiere destination wedding venue in the district. Come along between 11-2pm to inspect the lakehouse – bring the kids, lots of fun things on the day.

{ Country Houses }

We shot two beautiful country homes recently. One, a Federation style country house in Woodstook/Whittlesea near Melbourne (for sale through Pat Rice & Hawkins Real Estate Melbourne) and the other, a beautifully renovated holiday home in Echuca’s Dixon St (opposite the Bridge Hotel in the Port district) – which will soon be available for holiday rentals through Charles L King & Co First National Real Estate Echuca. Both had their unique charms and reminded me why I love visiting people’s homes with a fresh eye and will never tire of discovering new ways of private living.

Its a thrill to get out of the country and discover some different locations. Sheree & John were married on the fabled English Tudor-style grounds of the Monsalvat art community near Diamond Creek. It’s always easy to shoot couples who are genuinely in love and by the way John looked at his bride all day, there was no doubt on this occasion. Many thanks to Peta Calvert for her back up shooting and for lending her artistic angles to the shoot.

UPDATE:

You may have heard by now that a new residential record was set by Charles L. King & Co last weekend with the sale of 94 Wharparilla Drive. Over 1.7 million as the hammer came down. We are so pleased to have been part of the visual marketing campaign for the house, photographing Jim & Leslie’s home by the Murray River and assisting Gary Wood with the copywriting and his vision of a visual tour slideshow that was viewed 700 times on youtube before the auction. Congratulations to Gary, Troy O’Brien and the CLK team and to the winning bidders. No doubt there were a few broken hearts after the sale. After photographing many homes around town, this one really is the Jewel of the Murray. The second home featured in the slideshow below which was originally posted in May this year was also sold for a healthy sum on the day of auction. Goes to show how some great shots and a great agent can boost both the interest in the sale and the sale price itself.

Paperartzi has been around for a few years now and Mel is soon to launch a new online website selling some of her goods online. We started with a little promotional shoot and will continue to work with them during renovations. Echuca plays host to some beautiful family homes, inside and out. Here’s an overview of some recent shoots we’ve recently undertaken for Charles L King during the winter while all the brides and the grooms were hibernating. Wedding season has now opened and we travelled to Melbourne last weekend to photograph a couple marry at Monsalvat – an artist’s community in Yarra Glen. Absolutely dying to get into the processing and share some highlights with our readers.

In the meantime, enjoy flicking through some lovely local homes for sale (or sold). Great images always have the ability to catch the eye and attract buyers thus boosting both sales potential and therefore the price of the property. When you compare shots of real estate shot on domestic cameras compared to professional images, the difference is vivid and unmistakable. Check out the first property in this slideshow and you will see the handy work of Christina Nicholas who has brought the urban trend of ‘home staging’ to regional Victoria. { The QB Signature }

Celeste & Brendan recently upgraded their wedding album choice to a Hardcover 14×10 inch Signature Cover Queensberry Print Press album with transparencies within. We had a great time together designing the pages in my studio and were naturally taken aback when such a beautiful album arrived back from Queensberry’s print lab in New Zealand. Despite the most meticulous planning of layouts, pre-visualisation is but a mere sketch of your vision until it arrives, completed. Like Kim & Adrian’s QB Print Book, there’s a quality about Queensberry’s bespoke & print products that goes beyond the standard coffeetable book or album available in the marketplace. And the signature cover and ribbon trimmings on this along with the transparencies infused throughout the design of the book add a very classic kind of character without losing its modernity. For a studio sample, I ordered a 14×10 inch album along with the classy 10×7 inch duplicate for parents to cherish (and brag!) Feel free to browse through these two albums taking note of the soft transparent pages and the way they transition with the images on the next page. The black designer Mayu cover is also pictured.

{Beautiful Darling}

Celeste and Brendan prepared for their wedding at Perricoota Vines just as the magnificent green and gold willows were coming into full bloom. Celeste is a Marilynesque beauty who was impossible to take a bad shot of and Brendan, her debonaire groom waiting at the end of the aisle at Morrisons Vineyard. Celeste would grab her dress, lift it off her feet and walk with a country girl swagger – a farm girl through and through – but her perfect features and doll like charm made everyone gasp when she would appear around certain corners at certain moments. I was fortunate enough to be standing amongst the crowd as she walked down the aisle and could overhear the murmurs of admiration. And despite a ceremony in the full glare of an unforgiving sun, the gods smiled on this couple as they had portraits taken on the banks of the Murray (which is still recovering from the floods). The sun sighed over the waters and glowed on this couple – as it did when they returned to Perricoota Vines Retreat for the last shots. Light follows beauty one would suppose.

We shot this magnificent brick home on 89 Wharparilla Drive for Charles L King Echuca. It was built by the owners and features warm timber interiors, modern fittings and a beautiful outdoor living space for Friday night spas and dinners. The gardens are immaculate with white roses, a light-speckled driveway and a lush front and back lawn that I was convinced was plush carpet in disguise. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

The mesmeric bottle green eyed Katie di Pasquale contacted us recently to do a modelling portfolio shot. She’s not sure where she’s headed but from a misguided tour from Brisbane to Deniliquin, she’s now at a cross roads and decided to create an image bank. After a busy few weeks of baby love and real estate portraiture, Jac did these shots with Katie at the back of Dan Murphys and the Tafe building on Hare St. Blaire Maree did a fantastic job with the professional make up session before hand. Spring did its thing and so did the self-styled lady di pasquale. From a photographic point of view we were interested in getting as many different looks out of her in the limited time frame we had as the apprentices at tafe ogled the femme fatale behind the fence. “Kate had really strong angular features and could look as young or as mature as you needed her too. I was interested in working her ideas in to as many different angles as I could using a telephoto and a wide angle lens. I wanted her to try new things and get out of her comfort zone. We had fun. The result was a gas.” Jac

Welcome to the launch of our very first style guide for couples getting married in the Echuca/Moama area (or further afield infact). This has been lovingly put together by our principal photographer Jacqui Berthaume and features interviews with some popular local providers and artisans along with pages and pages of inspiration, tips on getting the most out of your wedding photography, spot-lit brides and how-to’s to assist you in your overall wedding day planning. Another home on the real estate market that we’ve photographed for our friends at Charles L King Echuca.
